The Story of the Meter Mobile
Thanks to Mort Metersky, PhD, BAe 1958 for sending us the following memory...

I forget what year it was, but I'll never forget the eating binge we went on one day.  I had my 1949 black Chevy convertible at school.  We decided to go to an all-you-can-eat restaurant in downtown Atlanta.  With the top down, we were able to fit 10 in my convertible.  It was so low to the ground that I was afraid if I hit a bump the car would collapse.  One of my brothers, Larry Stone ( future architect) was a big guy and could eat like a horse.  To make a long story short, we basically ate the restaurant out after about three hours of gorging ourselves.  Of course, Larry eat the most.  When we left, the owner warned us never to come back.  I really don't blame him.

Another fond memory occurred during a Winter quarter (I was a Winter Summer co-op).  We needed a water cooler in the fraternity house.  I happened to see one that had been abandoned at a car dealership not far from the house.  Again the Meter Mobile, the black convertible with its top down, was the preferred getaway car.  At three in the morning four of us,yes, Larry Stone was one of the four, drove to the dealership and we "lifted" the water cooler.  We installed it that night and when the house woke up the next morning they were presented with a functioning water cooler.  I wonder if it is still there 53 years?

I have mended my ways and have led a crime free life ever since.  I am now a fine art photographer and teach in a nonprofit Community Conservatory in Doylestown, PA where my students range from 10 to over 70. I call it "playing." It has a total student body of over 700 in Arts, Drama, and Music.   I retired from "working" in 1994.

Support the Annual Fund
For many of us, the bonds we formed at ZBT grew into connections that make life more meaningful today. Many of us have no closer friends than those we made back then.  Some of us got first job or reference from a brother, others have made great business connections through brothers. Some were our groomsmen or godfathers to our kids.  Add to that the lessons we learned as a result of our association with the fraternity.  These have helped to lay a foundation for the successes we have experienced in our personal and professional careers.

Remember that our program can't continue without our annual fund. And remember that our annual fund relies on support from our alumni brotherhood, and every donor makes a big difference. We can’t continue our program without you.

Carrying the Philanthropic Spirit in Their Alumni Years


Douglas Ramsay '82 writes "Peter Estelle and myself, both of Xi Chapter c 1982 raised over £8,000 ($15,000) for a UK Charity by cycling the length of Great Britain from Lands End in the south of England to John O'Groats in the north of Scotland
(just over 1,000 miles) in 10 days. In this photo, I'm on the left, Peter is in the middle and our UK friend Nick Tarling is on the  right."
